The AIATSIS Library holds the most comprehensive collection of print materials on Australian Indigenous studies in the world.

 

The Library has adopted the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Protocols for Libraries, Archives and Information Services.

 

The Library holds print materials in all formats. These include manuscript materials, serials, language materials, books, rare books, and the records of organisations, art catalogues, newspapers and newspaper clippings, maps, posters and kits, microforms and CD ROMS. Films, videos, sound recordings and photographs are held in the Audio Visual Archives


Mura® (the AIATSIS online catalogue) includes bibliographic details of all Library materials. Searching the catalogue ahead of a visit to the Library will make the best use of your time. The AIATSIS Thesaurus is used to catalogue our collections.

Opening hours -The Library is open to the general public for study and reference. These are Australian Eastern Standard times.  The Library is closed on Australian Capital Territory public holidays and between Christmas and New Year.

 

If you wish to make an appointment to visit on Tuesdays, you should do so prior to this day by contacting the Library by phone or email. The contact details are listed above.

 

AIATSIS has a Service Charter which explains how the staff can assist with enquiries and requests.
