The price of providing remedial training is costly. The Alliance for Excellent Education estimates the nation loses $3.7 billion a year because students are not learning basic needed skills, including $1.4 billion to provide remedial education for students who have recently completed high school.

Cell phones are now being incorporated into schools and are changing the way students learn. Educators are now using technology in order to teach students from the MySpace and Facebook generation, according to Innovate, a journal of online education.

College is the most complicated expensive purchase most people ever make. Houses are relatively easy—you can walk through ahead of time and hire an inspector to check the foundations for rot. Higher education, by contrast, is what economists call an “experiential good” – you don’t really know what you’re getting until after you’ve gotten it.
